Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas , Telecoms and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.27%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.39%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.38%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE: UNH ), which rose 1.80% or 5.69 points to trade at 321.58 at the close. Meanwhile, Boeing Co (NYSE: BA ) added 1.18% or 2.42 points to end at 207.67 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE: MRK ) was up 0.96% or 0.74 points to 77.97 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were American Express Company (NYSE: AXP ), which fell 1.07% or 3.21 points to trade at 296.09 at the close. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN ) declined 1.01% or 2.09 points to end at 204.07 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE: GS ) was down 0.94% or 5.78 points to 606.52.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ: MRNA ) which rose 6.10% to 28.00, Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ: DLTR ) which was up 4.63% to settle at 90.62 and Dollar General Corporation (NYSE: DG ) which gained 4.09% to close at 102.20.
The worst performers were Fair Isaac Corporation (NYSE: FICO ) which was down 8.11% to 2,027.00 in late trade, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ: SMCI ) which lost 4.51% to settle at 42.77 and The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES ) which was down 4.01% to 11.24 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Siyata Mobile Inc (NASDAQ: SYTA ) which rose 101.11% to 8.19, Edible Garden AG Inc (NASDAQ: EDBL ) which was up 80.90% to settle at 3.60 and Medirom Healthcare Technologies Inc (NASDAQ: MRM ) which gained 64.56% to close at 1.30.
The worst performers were Zapp Electric Vehicles Group Ltd (OTC: ZAPPF ) which was down 67.70% to 0.05 in late trade, Apptech Corp (OTC: APCX ) which lost 63.05% to settle at 0.08 and Affimed NV (OTC: AFMDQ ) which was down 47.66% to 0.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1634 to 1120 and 87 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1676 rose and 1605 declined, while 152 ended unchanged.
Shares in Boeing Co (NYSE: BA ) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 1.18% or 2.42 to 207.67. Shares in Zapp Electric Vehicles Group Ltd (OTC: ZAPPF ) fell to all time lows; losing 67.70% or 0.10 to 0.05. Shares in Apptech Corp (OTC: APCX ) fell to all time lows; down 63.05% or 0.13 to 0.08.
The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.22% to 18.10.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.80% or 58.30 to $3,291.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.14% or 0.09 to hit $62.23 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $65.56 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 1.13, while USD/JPY fell 0.21% to 144.52.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 99.90.
