Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp , Transport and Communication sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.58%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were IHI Corp. (TYO: 7013 ), which rose 5.44% or 695.00 points to trade at 13,465.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO: 7012 ) added 4.76% or 416.00 points to end at 9,148.00 and Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (TYO: 5706 ) was up 4.29% or 190.00 points to 4,615.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Sompo Holdings Inc (TYO: 8630 ), which fell 7.09% or 323.00 points to trade at 4,230.00 at the close. DeNA Co Ltd (TYO: 2432 ) declined 4.48% or 133.50 points to end at 2,849.50 and Advantest Corp. (TYO: 6857 ) was down 3.64% or 265.00 points to 7,010.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1927 to 1646 and 275 ended unchanged.

Shares in IHI Corp. (TYO: 7013 ) rose to 5-year highs; up 5.44% or 695.00 to 13,465.00.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.75% to 24.21.

Crude oil for July delivery was up 1.27% or 0.79 to $62.82 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 1.18% or 0.77 to hit $66.15 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 1.10% or 36.09 to trade at $3,320.69 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.58% to 143.70, while EUR/JPY fell 0.14% to 162.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 99.45.
