Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Power , Banking and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.99%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.95%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NSE: HDFL ), which rose 3.28% or 24.80 points to trade at 780.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NSE: PGRD ) added 2.53% or 7.35 points to end at 298.25 and ITC Ltd (NSE: ITC ) was up 2.32% or 9.90 points to 436.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NSE: SUN ), which fell 1.73% or 29.70 points to trade at 1,689.00 at the close. Grasim Industries Ltd (NSE: GRAS ) declined 0.70% or 18.60 points to end at 2,656.00 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NSE: BRTI ) was down 0.13% or 2.40 points to 1,829.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Eternal Ltd (BO: ETEA ) which rose 3.51% to 237.25, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO: PGRD ) which was up 2.51% to settle at 298.30 and ITC Ltd (BO: ITC ) which gained 2.32% to close at 436.00.

The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO: SUN ) which was down 1.84% to 1,688.30 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO: BRTI ) which lost 0.19% to settle at 1,828.25 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO: TAMO ) which was up 0.06% to 718.20 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1380 to 969 and 45 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2202 rose and 1593 declined, while 152 ended unchanged.

Shares in HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NSE: HDFL ) rose to all time highs; up 3.28% or 24.80 to 780.65.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.58% to 17.16.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.96% or 31.55 to $3,326.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.15% or 0.09 to hit $61.29 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.14% or 0.09 to trade at $64.53 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.84% to 85.25, while EUR/INR fell 0.21% to 96.81.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.58% at 99.27.
