Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Financials , Metals & Mining and Materials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.13%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Web Travel Group Ltd (ASX: WEB ), which rose 12.39% or 0.58 points to trade at 5.26 at the close. Meanwhile, Omni Bridgeway Ltd (ASX: OBL ) added 5.41% or 0.08 points to end at 1.57 and EML Payments Ltd (ASX: EML ) was up 4.35% or 0.05 points to 1.08 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ALS Ltd (ASX: ALQ ), which fell 7.60% or 1.34 points to trade at 16.30 at the close. Mineral Resources Ltd (ASX: MIN ) declined 5.47% or 1.30 points to end at 22.45 and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Ltd (ASX: FPH ) was down 4.78% or 1.63 points to 32.49.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 548 to 536 and 474 ended unchanged.

Shares in EML Payments Ltd (ASX: EML ) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 4.35% or 0.05 to 1.08.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 6.48% to 10.48 a new 3-months low.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.05% or 1.51 to $3,329.81 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.26% or 0.16 to hit $61.05 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.24% or 0.15 to trade at $63.72 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 0.64, while AUD/JPY fell 0.08% to 92.93.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 99.64.
