Investing.com – Greece stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking , Construction and Travel sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Athens, the Athens General Composite added 1.42% to hit a new 5-year high.

The best performers of the session on the Athens General Composite were Alpha Bank SA (AT: ACBr ), which rose 6.81% or 0.19 points to trade at 2.98 at the close. Meanwhile, Lampsa Hellenic Hotels SA (AT: LAMr ) added 5.41% or 2.00 points to end at 39.00 and Piraeus Bank SA (AT: BOPr ) was up 4.47% or 0.26 points to 6.08 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Cars Motorcycles and Marine Engine Trade and Import Company SA (AT: MTDr ), which fell 2.83% or 0.08 points to trade at 2.75 at the close. Crete Plastics SA (AT: PLAKR ) declined 2.68% or 0.40 points to end at 14.50 and Autohellas (AT: AUTr ) was down 2.23% or 0.26 points to 11.42.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Athens Stock Exchange by 69 to 52 and 22 ended unchanged.

Shares in Alpha Bank SA (AT: ACBr ) rose to 5-year highs; up 6.81% or 0.19 to 2.98. Shares in Piraeus Bank SA (AT: BOPr ) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 4.47% or 0.26 to 6.08.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.02% or 0.74 to $3,327.56 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.30% or 0.79 to hit $61.68 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.04% or 0.66 to trade at $64.23 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 1.13, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.06% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 99.71.
