Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Consumer Staples , Financials and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.28%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BRP Inc (TSX: DOO ), which rose 12.68% or 6.30 points to trade at 56.00 at the close. Meanwhile, H&R Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX: HR_u ) added 3.65% or 0.37 points to end at 10.52 and Bombardier Inc (TSX: BBDb ) was up 3.65% or 3.35 points to 95.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were EQB Inc (TSX: EQB ), which fell 7.44% or 7.38 points to trade at 91.80 at the close. Denison Mines Corp (TSX: DML ) declined 7.17% or 0.17 points to end at 2.20 and Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: EFR ) was down 5.16% or 0.38 points to 6.98.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 456 to 419 and 84 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 10.71% to 10.59 a new 3-months low.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.59% or 19.69 to $3,342.09 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.49% or 0.92 to hit $60.92 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.48% or 0.95 to trade at $63.37 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.20% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.44% to 0.64.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.49% at 99.29.
